An Israeli Jesuit on pro-Palestinian protests, antisemitism and demonizing narratives
As the war in the Holy Land continues to escalate and protests break out on university campuses around the world, Pope Francis persists in his calls for peace. But is it possible? Where does peace begin?
Released on May 9th, 2024, this episode of the “Inside the Vatican” podcast features David Neuhaus, S.J., an Israeli priest who teaches Scripture in Israel and Palestine, and works for peace in the Holy Land. He reflects on how Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs can engage in dialogue without dismissing each other’s painful histories, and emphasizes the need for nuanced and sensitive language in the current discourse about the war.

    How do u people follow this false antichrist doctrine, read your Bible nowhere does it mention a man other than Christ being the beacon of light. Who authorized these spies. Where in the Bible does it say anything about a priest is the only one who can be the mediator between you and God almighty. We are saved by Grace not works because u can never limit The Father to simple fake do gooders.

    +JMJ Bergoglio says Holy Communion is not a prize for the perfect, but a medicine for the sick. According to him, you can mortally sin, receive Communion and go straight to heaven. In Bergoglio 's Protestant theology, everyone, except rigid backward looking traditional Catholics are going to heaven .Bergoglio's teaching is false insofar as it directly contadicts St. Paul himself who said: "[W]hat pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be partners with demons…You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons ( I Cor. 10:20-21). Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord (I Cor 11:27). For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself” (I Cor. 11:29).

    Given that in our Church we are able to live with and be enriched by the various Religious Orders, for example, there doesn't seem to be any really critical reason why we can't live with and be enriched by a variety of liturgical practices. We do already have them - I grew up in South Africa and was involved with various 'African' parishes and now live in Italy, where the way of celebrating the liturgy is very different. But being different does not mean we are not one Church. In a family, no one child is exactly like another, and we see that they grow up to have very different lives sometmes, but can still be very much part of one family. Diversity should be seen as enriching, not as dividing. I think banning or talking against either form of the Mass only makes those who are attached to it feel threatened and drives a gap between us.

    The Church must seek ways to incorporate its teachings in a deeply traditional manner, which will aid in enhancing the understanding of the Indigenous people. Embracing traditional techniques and approaches towards their culture and institutions is crucial, as it focuses on studying and preserving the practice of the Mongoloid Catholic Approach. It is essential to recognize that individuals are highly conscious of their traditions and culture, even more so than the past. Therefore, it is imperative to establish a church that respects and safeguards their traditional beliefs.

    Looks like McElroy support "Cafeteria Catholicism" in which we can reject what makes us feel uncomfortable and still call ourselves good Catholics. Why does McElroy and Pope Francis display so much hostility toward traditional Roman Catholics? He was promoted to Cardinal because he supports Francis' leftist ideologies and alienation of those who dare to disagree with them. the Left rails on about "Inclusion" but that inclusion does not include traditional Catholics. It seems Francis and McElroy want schism and war within the Church like Biden and the Socialists have declared war on 84 million Americans who did not vote for him..

    I'm a new subscriber to this channel, and so glad I found it! I have subscribed to America Magazine for some years now. I am a Catholic Democrat who has felt alienated as Fr. Martin has mentioned. My voter's guide is found in Matthew 25:31-46 in which Jesus explicitly describes what the Judgment of the Nations ("people groups"...this is not a reference to modern nation states) will look like. In that passage, Jesus separates the nations as the sheep from the goats. He goes on to judge them on the basis of what they did or didn't do for the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger (immigrant, or poor wanderer), the unclothed, the sick, and the prisoner. He added that whatsoever they did to the least of these His brethren, they did it also to Him. It seems to me that many Catholics (and Evangelical Protestants) have either forgotten, ignored, or were never taught about God's preferential concern for the poor. How can one be a faithful Catholic and not try to come up with some way to welcome those poor migrants at our southern border? Where is our new and improved Ellis Island? The vast majority of those migrants are Catholics! Also, I believe the key to reducing and even ending abortion is not criminalization, but adhering to Catholic social teaching. Why aren't we promoting affordable health care, child care, education, and transportation. Other developed nations with broad access to abortion nevertheless have low abortion rates (and less promiscuity, btw) though they're not thought of as religious peoples. Why? If there is an unplanned pregnancy, there is no financial impediment to having and raising the child, even if you are a single mother.

    Jesus said this to the Samaritan woman at the well about worship: "God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.’" (John 4:24) I've only been to a TLM once years ago, and found it beautiful. I also find the N.O. Mass beautiful. The point is, what does God find beautiful? Isn't it He who is receiving our worship? He is concerned with the attitude and sincerity of our hearts. He is concerned with our zeal and love for Him. He is concerned with our love one for another. He is concerned about whether we are welcoming to outsiders who need to hear the Gospel and be saved.

    Pope Francis, quoting Aristotle, said, "Man is by nature a political animal." My voter's guide is found in Matthew 25:31-46 in which Jesus revealed what the Judgment of the Nations ("nations" meaning "people groups") will look like. He will separate the nations like sheep and goats. One group saw His blessed face in the faces of the poor, the sick, the immigrant, and the prisoner, and they loved Him in them. The other group didn't. Both groups will be equally amazed and confounded at His Judgment. This passage simplifies things for me a great deal, not just because of what Jesus mentions, but what He conspicuously does not mention. (Isaiah 58:1-14 also tells us what God considers to be a just or unjust society.)

  • @darlameeks
    @darlameeks Месяц назад

    We all know that the only sure-fire cure for abortion related to illicit sexual behavior is the Gospel. Strong teaching on chastity outside of marriage is needed for young men as well as young women. President Biden does not believe in abortion, but does not think that he, as President, has the right to impose his religious beliefs on unbelievers. He also does not believe that criminalization is the way to end it. There were plenty of abortions happening before Roe, and that will continue after Roe. Some developed nations with broad access to abortion nonetheless have the lowest abortion rates. This is because their society provides them with affordable/free health care, paid family leave, education, and child care. A girl or woman with an unexpected pregnancy is financially able to raise her child, so she carries to term. It's easy to be pro-life when it's cheap, but a bit tougher when it means higher taxes and a bigger safety net. As for who should be denied Communion, FL Gov. Ron DeSantis (who is a Catholic) just signed a bill forbidding FL municipalities from requiring the employers of outdoor workers to provide water and shade breaks. OSHA requirements don't really require it, either. I don't know if you've spent any time in the FL summer, but this is both dangerous and cruel. People are sometimes hospitalized for, or even drop dead from, heat stroke even when they do have water and shade. I can't get into his head, but it seems like he wants to kill somebody with his policies! Is that pro-life? Shouldn't he be denied Communion for signing that bill?

    I know this video is old but I´m having some conflicts and I hope you can help me out with a response. Years ago I used to go to community masses with the Jesuits in Mexico city in a very intimate context. during a Mass, when it was time for communion the priest went to each one of us and gave us the eucharist. When he came up to me I told him I couldn´t have communion and he simply said something like "That´s nonesense" and gave it to me regardless. I felt a bit confused and also a bit disrespected although I understand that it was me who took it. I am currently going through spiritual companionship, agian with the Jesuits, and my Companion, a priest. Does not believe that Eucharist should be reserved for those who´ve been to confession mainly because he believes God gives himself for us even (or specially maybe) when we are sinners. I´ve found this line of thinking specially in ignatian circles and I find it very unsettling. I understand that they view this as a compassionate act and not some "You should be perfect in order to receive the eucharist" thing. I imagine they also know how traumatizing it can be for someone to confess their sins over and over agian without managing to change. Nonetheless it makes me feel uncomfortable and I´m torn between thinking that I should just go to confession every time I want to have communion or, thinking that I´m just falling into extremism (Although I know this is the official position of the church) If I just abstain from in until I can overcome my sins. Could you share with me your understanding of these things? Thank you!

    I have been a devout Roman Catholic since 1961, but I renounced my Roman Catholic faith in 2022 for two chief reasons: one, the Roman Catholic faith is not aligned with the Bible; and two, I was spiritually liberated by the book I read entitled "Altar of Secrets: Sex, Politics, and Money in the Philippine Catholic Church" by Aries C. Rufo. I am now a happily born again Christian . . . much better because its Bible-centered! The Word of God, the Bible, is true food and real drink (John 6:63) not transubstantiation.
